I’m News and Features Editor at Sky Movies Online and I also write about film for The Times, The Independent and The Spectator.
The posts here though are very much my own musings about the endlessly absorbing world of film. If you disagree with me, say so. If you agree with me, do feel free to say so even more fervently.
Below are some of my favourite films. But be warned – these are going to change on a very frequent basis. And just fyi, I will not have any shame about putting some real silliness in there. Sometimes everyone needs a little bit of Enchanted.
So for today: Goodfellas, A History of Violence, The Bourne Trilogy (especially Ultimatum), The Fellowship of the Ring, Wayne’s World, Room with a View, Man on Wire, The Room, House of the Flying Daggers, Rear Window and so many, many more…
Dear Miss Steele
I was so happy to chance across this page. I am a massive fan of your property pieces in the national press and was delighted to see that we can now expect the same light witted but hard hitting opinions about new films as well as new mortar.
I am waiting until I see Freddie Got Fingered 2 before I break my journalistic duck. Perhaps that event will take place on this, your wonderful site.
With best wishes, from your biggest fan

I have heard that they are making the fourth and final film in the Twilight Saga and the last Harry Potter movie into two films. Because the films have been a huge success I think that this is most likely because they want to make more money. Personally I think this will ruin the films. You can’t realistically have a novel split in two, it’s ludicrous! Books are often much, much better than the films anyway so I’d have thought you should try to follow the story line as much as possible. Plus if they used their brains they could probably make more money by keeping the film as one, because there will be more DVD sales because the films wont be so bad, hence more people going out to buy it or even see it again at the cinema.
I agree with Lucy 🙂 its just stupid.
Inception
Sci-fi/Action movies aren’t usually my scene at all. It’s normally Rom-coms, mystery or tacky Chick flicks. So it was quite interesting seeing Inception. The graphics were amazing, right up to the end, and it wasn’t just graphics and a load of action, which is what I previously thought most sci-fi’s are cracked up to be. No, there was so much more to it. The story line linked in well with the action and made it exhilarating. You had to keep up with the storyline otherwise, chances are you’d be left behind. It’s fast moving from start to finish and never quite does what you expect. I would definitely recomend this film, to those who are into this genre of film, or novices like me when it comes to sci-fi/action movies.
